At the end of Helios project training, 17 women successfully completed the course.

A number are examining the possibility of self-employment with Invest Northern Ireland, two participants have secured part-time employment as tilers, and the majority have expressed an interest in further training to enhance their skills.

The Project

Beginning in September 2005, Helios recruited 24 women to a supported, two-year training programme.

The programme included construction skills training, coupled with an essential skills course, and support from local women’s groups. Women were also provided with childcare and transport support in order to challenge documented barriers to female participation in training and education.

17 women completed Helios project training - at least 50% more than expected. A number are examining the possibility of self-employment with Invest Northern Ireland, two participants have secured part-time employment as tilers, and the majority have expressed an interest in further training to enhance their skills.
