In March 2005, Helios forged a partnership with the Bâtifemmes Project based in the Auvergne region of France.

Together they formed the Building for Women Transnational Partnership and have agreed and drawn up a set of recommendations to aid the recruitment and retention of women within construction skills training and trades.

Mainstreaming and transnational co-operation are key principles of the EQUAL Programme. They ensure that lessons are learned across Member States and that examples of good practice are exchanged.

Helios therefore established a link with the Bâtifemmes Project, based in the Auvergne region of France. Having acknowledged their shared interest in promoting women into construction skills training and trades, both groups met in Paris to form the Building for Women Partnership and to sign a formal Transnational Co-operation Agreement.

The Building for Women Partnership has since actively imported and exported best practice and exchanged and shared ideas. They have produced a Transnational Learning Report comparing the approaches adopted in their respective countries and outlining their joint recommendations for mainstreaming at a local, regional, national and transnational level.

The Building for Women Partnership would like other European countries to benefit from their experience and take steps to reduce skills shortages by encouraging more young women to participate in non-traditional trades.
